About Us

The Namibian National Students’ Organization is the only legitimate, and recognized national representative body of the learner and student population in Namibia. Founded in 1984, as a non-racial, democratic and independent body, the Organization has a history of advocating for the rights and interests of learners and students in the country, and for championing the free access to quality education. As such, the formation of NANSO was a necessary development in the struggle of the Namibian people against colonialism and foreign domination. Over the years the context and focus has changed. To that effect, NANSO has succeeded in organizing, mobilizing and uniting Namibian students to develop an awareness of national identity and unity of purpose in order to advocate for quality, free education and knowledge based and technology driven society NANSO is organized on the basic principle that there is a constant need for learners and students, together with other strata of society, to make education respond to the needs of its country and its people. The Organization strives to be a developmental partner to the Government of the Republic of Namibia, and to position itself in areas of policy influence, by being represented on boards of state owned enterprises that have a hand in the development and provision of education.

Aims and Objectives

  • To organize, mobilize, and unite all students of Namibia so as to be able to participate fully in the social, cultural, economic and political life of our society.

  • To defend the rights and interest of students to free quality education without any discrimination on the basis of sex, colour, religion, creed, economic status or Political affiliation.

  • To strive for research based reform and democratization of education for it to respond positively to the developmental needs of our society.

  • To establish links of cooperation, mutual understanding, solidarity and friendship among the students of Namibia and the progressive world over.

  • To promote Patriotism, Pan Africanism and cooperation amongst students and/or between other progressive strata of our society so as to enhance genuine development of our people.

Mission

NANSO exists to advocate for accessible and free Quality Education for all students and to ensure a knowledge based and technology driven society.

Our Plan

NANSO Strategic Plan provides strategic direction for the Organization 2018-2020. It answers the question “Where does NANSO want to be?” Similarly, it defines values which the institution will uphold in achieving its mission. The organization has endeavored to undertake a critical analysis of strategic issues or critical area in the organization which needs to be addressed because it hinders the attainment of the main goals. These organizational weaknesses needs to be addressed in order to attain the mission and vision.

Our Constitution

The Namibia National Students’ Organization (NANSO) Constitution as Amended and Adopted on the 10th December 2011, at Windhoek Technical High School is as the basic fundamental law governing the conduct of affairs of all the Students across the whole territory of the Republic of Namibia.
